Music Music Music... manipulation of Classical sensation leading to an urban Collaboration?
Question: Coming from many backgrounds I love loads of different music; eastern western, anything that’s on my frequency. As a child I listened to Mozart, Tchaikovsi and Vivaldi as well as reggae hiphop and mash ups...I was wondering if any of you fellow eclectic music lovers happen to know of any mixes or classical hiphop/rnb collaborations? An example of what I’m looking for is the mixed version of Mozart’s Cunning linguistics...just classical that has been well mixed for an urban sound rougher beats laced on top violin etc ...hope you can help
Answers: I'm not sure if this actually fits the mold you've laid out, but I have, for nearly 20 years, enjoyed a group called The Cocteau Twins (not sure if you've ever heard them). Their music is very unique and if you do a MySpace music search for groups inspired by the Cocteau Twins , you'll find a ton (which was actually surprising to me as I thought not many people knew about them).
They are not Urban per se, but they do have an air of classical, at many times Operatic sound and influence. They have quite the eclectic mix of sounds, ranging from Dream Pop, to Gothic, to New Age, all with a very good background beat.
The lead female singer, Elizabeth Frasier, sings most of the songs with onomatopoeic made-up words that really have no meaning or definition. She essentially uses sounds and syllables to allow her voice to act as an additional instrument.
Give them a try. They aren't for everyone, as their style really is more of a feminine nature, but it is unique and usually causes the listener to think of dream-like sequences induced by the music. Every time I listen to them, I pick up on a sound I hadn't heard there before. Very interesting to listen to.
Good luck in your search.
