Did you know with the last name of "Lee", someone could be Black, White, or Asian?
Question: Not to leave out my beautiful hispanic friends! Just something I thought about :)
Answers: definantely!!!
check this:
my girlfriends name is Jade Lee --shes white
i have a high school friend named Andy Lee -- he's vietnamese
and of course famous director/producer Spike Lee -black guy
and me...i'm hispanic!!! but my last name is cruz!
Wow!! No I did not. I thought it was only american and of course asian. African? HISPANIC????
That's certainly interesting. What is the origin though?
The Anglo-Saxon name Lee comes from an early middle English word lee meaning pasture, or field, or clearing. Ofter, European surnames began as a suffix used to differentiate to people with the same Christian name. So a fellow named William that worked as a blacksmith might be call William Smith, another William that lived in a clearing in the nearby forest, might be called William Lee.
American Blacks in the days of slavery, often took the Surname of their former master when freed, and the Asian name is simply an Anglocized spelling of a common asian name. Since most asian cultures have a written language that is totally different fomr the european languages, Asian names are spelled as phonetic equivalents in English.
That is interesting. I heard (about origin of names) for example; the name Johnson came from John's son. Same with Samson, Carlson, Frederickson, Jackson, Derrickson, Ericson...you get the picture. Thanks for sharing!
